Project Accountant – Hybrid Working – Up to £55k

On behalf of our well-established client based in Manchester, we are recruiting for an experienced Project Accountant. As Project Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining, developing and monitoring the progress of projects, investigating variances, approving expenses, and ensuring that project payments are processed for the MC Tech project portfolio.

The Project Accountant will be responsible for:

  • Develop a robust forecasting model for project managers to use that will feed into a consolidated model to produce a range of insightful summary reports and provide commentary on performance, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Monthly reviews with stakeholders to understand variance analysis and improve the accuracy of forecasting and challenge where necessary, paying attention to P&L and Capex implications.
  • Liaise with the MC Finance team to ensure rules around capitalization are adhered to and undertake a monthly accruals process.
  • Support the development of robust business cases for new change projects, and challenge assumptions used to construct them to ensure robustness and ability to track. Evaluate business cases using financial metrics such as NPV, IRR, payback period and seek to optimize the value of the investment in change.
  • Develop a model to track and report on the budgeted benefits across the group because of change activity, forecasting this for the year and gaining approval from budget holders that this has been achieved. This will include both cost reduction and income improvement; whilst also working closely with MC Finance.

The Project Accountant will have the following:

  • Experience as a project accountant, or similar in a project financial management experience in a technical environment with transactional websites, platforms, back-end systems, and interfaces.
  • Proficiency in electronic accounting systems and advanced proficiency in managing general ledgers, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to create and prepare exceptional project budgets, financial forecasts, and tax reports report for the MC Heads of and Directors and other Programme and Project managers.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in accounting.
  • Exposure to supplier activities and extensive knowledge of invoicing and billing.
  • Understand project management processes
  • Ability to present and explain financial speak to non-financial stakeholders
